 Who Wants To Live Forever?

Now, faced with the complexities of the 21st century, Jason must determine if Chauni is truly "The One".  Is this white witch the embodiment of what the magical book scribed of itself so long ago?  Jason’s love for Chauni knows no bounds but he questions himself and the book at length, as he uncovers more of its secret meanings and riddles.  Must Chauni become something other than the gentle, kind Wiccan that was raised by her beautiful adoptive mother, in fulfilling the age old prophecy?  Is she "The One"?  What is Jason holding back from her as he takes her into his heart and mind and transports her along with him as he enters her dreams and re-lives his past?

And worse… What should happen if he is wrong in his convictions?  Will the evil creature who created him, the temptress that pre-dates the Genesis, walk the earth once more and exercise her cruelty over humanity?

  • The Idea For Saga
  • Saga-Halfway Into Nightfall is my first novel.  I got the idea for it from an old castle ruins I would visit at night while deployed to an alert area  stationed in Germany with the US Army.   I always felt that the old stones I had sat upon and the land that I viewed from under a suffocating low, cloud dampened sky, was haunted.  Although I never saw anything that one would call paranormal, I can recall the hair on the back of my neck rising up and having that swaying-type of feeling that you get deep within your gut when everything looks normal but sense number 6 is nudging you that it's not.
  • All of  that took place in the mid-eighties.  A number of years later ~ 1997 in fact ~  I finally listened to the muse in my head and sat down to compose Saga.  It is a funny thing when you get bitten on the neck by the Writing Bug.  You become infected and there isn't anything that can treat the malaise except pecking away at the keys, sweating the small details and, live with an ache inside that parallels an affair of love and hate in the physical term.
The Old Days
  •  Committed to the writing of the novel, I decided to get on line and see if the basic idea for Saga was feasible.  I needed immediate feedback and thought the internet would be ideally suited for it.  I got connected and stumbled into a chat room.  That was the birth of  my "cyber-youth."   I would enter the room and would post spur of the moment , off-the-cuff paragraphs that would come to me as I sat there uninterested in what everyone was chatting about.
  • I was innocently disrespectful in many ways and yet so silent, that I would not even say "Hello" when being greeted or welcomed to the room.  (Another funny anecdote from back then:  I was so unknowing that I thought "hotmail" was used for pornographic email.) Part of that was due to my not knowing anything about a chat room and another part was because I wasn't there to chat.  I was there to entertain, I imagine, looking back on the experience.  I think in the final analysis that I am better at telling a story in a chat room than I am at chatting.
  • I just wanted to read the comments from what I was posting in those days.  Did it have meaning to those who read it?   Was it worthy?  Did the character of Jason West cause people to "know" him and his moods?   Based on what I read in response to what people saw would be the maker or breaker of my decision to undertake and continue the novel.  Yes--I desperately wanted that feedback and I almost sold my soul to get it but, as the old saying goes, "That is another story."
  • Never attending college or even expressing the slightest interest in writing while I was in high school, Saga and the other stories I've written, have posed a enormous challenge to me.  The plot and character dialogue sort of come natural to me but there are moments when I have to work at it. Writing "women" dialogue and scenes is very difficult.  Writing in a rhythm is also hard to accomplish.  This is especially true when it comes to writing the poetry for the character of Jason.
The Current
  • Jason's poetry had to meet a lot of criteria I placed on it and myself.  It  had to rhyme.  It had to "read" like Jason spoke.  It had to have hidden meanings buried deep within each stanza.  Finally, it had to give you the reader, a hint of what was to be told in each chapter.  In other words, it set the plot as each chapter changed.
  • Lastly, to top things off, I never took a typing class so I was at a distinct disadvantage from the get go.  I still am.  Even after all of these years I must glance at the keyboard when typing with my four fingers.
  • I hope that you will enjoy the other teases throughout the web site from Saga!
