Saga ~ Halfway Into Nightfall

The Three's ~ A Series of Seductive Poems from Saga

Authors Comments on "The Three's" (click bullet squares for drop down lists)

  • Besides Jason's affinity with fire, everything in Saga is directly related to the numeral 3 or a multiple thereof.  Jason was indentured to Elsabeth for nine years as a mortal.  It took three days for the vampire "Seed" that Elsabeth impregnated him with to fully attach itself within him.  He was 33 years old when he became the vampire.  His mark, the hidden symbol, he uses to seal documents is the triangle.   As a mortal he had a wife and two son's ~ Three all told.  He first visit's Chauni when she comes of age at eighteen.  You get the point...

  • Humanity begins young, we mature and then we grow old;  except in Jason's case as a vampire, he stopped aging.  He is missing a part of "Three"... Overall the number three is a reoccurring theme throughout Saga.  Keep an eye out for it

Why is 3 so significant?

  • I feel that everything in life (or in Jason's case, his existence) is connected to the number 3.  We are born, we live then we die.  If you look at a triangle each side is connected, i.e.; The base being the Blood, the left side Life, the right...Death.  I have it used as a simile for Jason. He feels that he is perched on the tip of that triangle (pyramid).  He balances himself between Life and Death all the while being connected to the Blood.

  • There are three "main" characters who must come together and fulfill Prophecy;  Jason, Chauni and someone else who I won't name here.  The three of them are interwoven throughout the novel.  One cannot exist without the other. Tessalonika is the wild card character of the lot.

What is the meaning of "The Three's"?

  • Basically, I felt that if I created a series of vampire ~ like seductive poems that Jason pens to Chauni the book would make for a better read.  We all enjoy a vivid sensual scene in novels, don't we?  (some of us do more than others I reckon).

  • In truth, there are five poems for the "Three's" but to display the fifth would be a dead giveaway to the book's ending.  Keep in  mind that all of the poems that Jason writes, Chauni will never read ~ unless Jason dies at the end.  He's made arrangements to have his journal delivered to Chauni before the Seed in her takes hold (which of course, is in three days).

  • He does this because he knows that she'll have no "teacher" to help her adjust to her new being.  Beside Elsabeth in the 12th century, Jason has never seen, created or even heard of another vampire.  He doesn't know how to create another like him...Nor does he want to.  He hates the creature he has become and has reservations about making Chauni into his image.  He must follow the Tome though.  That he does know,  for it is the only thing that makes him stride forward in his existence.  It is his "Hope" for a future with Chauni.  So... He doesn't want Chauni to be by herself, hence the reason for the journal he keeps for her.

  • Jason has Chauni flown over from England to the Manor ninety days before her 27 birthday toward the end of the book.   During these months the Tome he has deciphered tells him that 3 rituals must be performed between himself and Chauni (once a month for three months) with the Final of Three's being performed prior to midnight of her twenty-seventh birthday, the First of May, in order for her to become the vampire, thus fulfilling Prophecy.

  • May the First is a very religious Wiccan holiday; Beltane.  It's roots are in fertility rites.  During these rituals Jason recites the verse of the "Three's" poems to Chauni as the rites are acted out between them.  The poems are not read in their entirety in the chapters that they appear;  Character dialogue and plot unfold between each stanza.  The "First of Three's, The Second of Three's, and The Final of Three's", are the only poems that Chauni ever hears being spoken by Jason.

  • "The Three's" are directly related to preparing Chauni's mind, body and soul.  (There's that multiple of three again, huh?)

Why have you posted the "The Ritual Three's ~ Prologue," and not the last poem of the "Three's"?

  • I thought that by posting the Prologue to the "Three's" would give you a better look at what the other three mean.  I chose not to post the last one of the series simply due to the fact that it is the last page of the novel. (You didn't think I was going to give away everything here, did you?)

  • Enjoy my creations here.  I still get teary-eyed whenever I read  "The Final Of Three's" and I wrote the damned thing.

The Ritual Threes (Prologue)

Comes now the Time of Knowing,
Comes now the Time of Need
Are you not prepared to savor the Wine?
Come, My Betrothed, ‘for I hold out My hand
Enter these emerald eyes of Mine

I will suffer you this, a new moment of Birth,
Lie back...part open your delicate thighs
Fear not of the cut.  Fear not of My bite
For Mystery Eternal whimpers and soon shall be mixed
complementing each one of your ecstatic sighs

But flows a droplet of Blood, the base stone of Life...
Seeping from your womanhood and your hidden moist desires
Feel My lips suckle your burning flesh in the night
No harm will come as I lap away your flowing, musk scent
you shall not be scorched by passions fire

My One, My Witch, I must capture the taste of you
as you undulate under My gaze of need and lust
Exorcise your abandonment.  Show Me of your power
Do you dare place within Me your complete trust?

Fair One, My Love, I merely make ready your soul
to take on the most foulest of greed
I begin to prepare your mind as I stroke your firm breast
while I lick your vessel in preparation for the Seed

Is the flame held upon My tongue desirable?
Does it ignite your wet core with its touch?
Shall your voice become choked as I kiss away your spirit
finally setting it once again free?
Or perhaps you will close your eyes and lie trembling as you dream...
Cursing Me in silence as I perform these intoxicating deeds

For you are The One, My Love-Witch,
chosen from Time beyond Knowing
you and I joined, bonded and destined to be Forever as One
My gift that I bear and will present to you has been foretold...
‘Passed down along the rays of an undying Sun

From dusty parchment and papyrus inscribed with Enigma,
brought forth into the twilight shaded days of this Time
I shall create you into My Image, this, the creature that I am
Once I have placed upon your bronze skin,
the mark of Mystery and Riddle
It is of The Three My Betrothed;  you shall wear it concealed
This ~ The Ancient Trinity now revealed...

Authors Note

  • Jason pens "The Ritual Three's ~ Prologue,"  poem after he had been visiting Chauni in the out-of-body state for a couple of years.  In those visits, neither of them can physically touch the other.  Jason knows that the day will come when they will be able to touch so he kind of sexually fantasizes of what it would be like to be with her the first time they meet.  (Talk about adolescent male wet-dreams, huh?)

First of Threes

(A Ritual of Seductive Thought and Transformation)

We meet in a dream in a place that we both know of
We whisper our words tender and so eloquently
Prepare your temple My One ~ My Sacrificial Love Witch
‘For now Magikal ritual begins;
Our haunted Destiny cries out...
Have I not been created to transform thee?

(I will ravish your mind.  I will possess your body
I will covet your soul—Join with Me!)

I now set you upon the Path of Mystery
Fate’s invisible hand beckons to you
Take your first halting step;
You will find that I hold the answers to that which you seek
A moment will come
A wind will be felt
A mournful howl heard deep amongst the trees

It is only I My Witch—
It is My voice shattering the Night
‘Beyond all that, nothing more shall you hear or see

I am Magik incarnate
I am the Shadow of Night
I am the remembered creature of age-old lore
My father best not spoke of...
My mother—The Twilight Succubus
In My presence never mention the name of the Whore

This first Night of your Changing
I shall be kind to you Witch
We will both be granted what the Past
has imparted from that ancient manuscript
Drawing you into Me slowly
I shall navigate the Stars in your eyes
Entering the nebula of the River of Memory
we shall both be awash in the steamy mist

(I will ravish your mind I will possess your body
I will covet your soul—Join with Me!)

I shall enfold you within My arms
savoring life near your thigh
I hold on tight, as I taste
Do not tremble My One
Shudder, yes! Cry out in passion, yes!
Harbor no fear Fair One ~
Think of Me only as the tongue of a Dark lullaby

Do not place false faith in the current of Time
Instead, travel the dank trail of musty superstition
Approach the Darkness with open mind, heart and mouth
Await to savor the heady and repugnant
fulfillment of the unabashed and animalistic nocturnal emissions

I will provide you this unworldly gift
Comes the Hour, My Betrothed
‘Seal your lips
‘Feel My breath
Rekindle the Blood that runs cold!

(I will ravish your mind.  I will possess your body
I will covet your soul—Join with Me!)

Come! Leave behind this mortal, material world!
It is Time...It must be now!
‘Catch your breath!
Take flight My Witch!

  ...you may now

          Wistfully

                Sigh

The Second of Threes

(A Ritual)

Chauni, My Sacred One
Luna stands disrobed
Stars burn their passion with a fiery white light
The Wind whispers to the trees of forgotten dream
Ancient and rustling—Clouds cease their movement
‘For now comes the Second of Threes

Hear My voice My Love Witch
Allow its hollow calm to prevail and tempt you
Expose to Me your life-force
Hear My longing
Hear My cries
Hear My plea’s

Hypnotic and beckoning I call unto you
Tell Me of your sorrows, reveal that of your shame
For I must know of your hopes, aspirations and of your sensual needs
Arise from your slumber
Walk naked and proud to My calling
It has been foretold My One
Time places us here--It is the Night of the Second of Threes

Seek Me out from within the sullen captivation of shadow
I shall blindfold you to remove your inner sight
‘The binding knot tied by the fingers of the voyeuristic breeze
Kneel before Me, your dark, soulless angel—
It is I whom command you to please

Gaze deeply into My eyes and know of desire and lust
I dominate your submissiveness with My knowledge this Night--
‘The Night of the Second of Threes

Cast away your inhibitions
Forget that of your apprehensions
For no harm is between us
Rid yourself of all sorrows
Dissolve all guilt’s and past anguish
Suffer your soul to lie down as moist leaves

I shall enter your mind and have you turn the pages of My thoughts
Read them, absorb them.  Understand them.  Remember!
My thoughts foretell the Second of Threes

I hold you captive in mood
I detain your most secret of wants
I shall  fill your chalice to the brim with Magikal means

I touch your body with soft, erotic intent
as Fire consumes you and I with its savage torment
Do you not hear your shallow breaths struggling to be free?

Accept this token My One as you become aware of its fullness
For in My hand is the implement—
I hold the Second of Threes

You were destined for this
Suckle with moist lips of this offering
Stay still!   Become as stone!
Rob Me of this passion and moment
as you tremble upon bent quaking knees

I have given you a release
You have tasted My Blood as I have relished of yours
One soul!  One!  One Soul  ~ Eternal ~ Now free!

It is time My Betrothed, Love-lust whimpers a wanton calling

Submit to the Second of Threes!

Authors Comments

  • Notice when Jason addresses Chauni he will always refer to her in the "formal'.  He capitalizes each reference to himself but only when he calls Chauni, "Fair One, My One", ect., does her ever capitalize her in the second person or the third.  He is very protective of her and yet, very dominant around her; Even when he writes in his journal about her.

  • He also has a tendency to capitalize words or terms that he deems important;  "Time... Eternal... Forever... Love, ect."  I am aware that it does make for harder reading like that but I had to keep true with what Jason is all about.

The Final of Threes

(The Joining Ritual of Forever)

Now comes the time when your transformation is at hand
Now comes the time you must forevermore be
Now I open the Tome of scribed and ancient wisdom

At last, the Final of Threes

you are Mortal, yet Wiccan
you are Women,  yet not
I stand before you ready to plant this ~  the vampires gnawing Seed

As I was suffered this on the day of my birth,
so you shall too My amber hair Witch
I chant now the incantations of the Final of Threes

"Light the Candle of Creation,
Ring the Bell of Knowledge,
Speak the Utterance of Forever...
To the Heavens, to the Gods, in solemn, pious mediocrity"

Elsabeth passed this into me and She created a God
Know that I’ve carried this Seed to its full maturity
I part with it now in ritualistic awe and with thankless remembrance
It will finally leave My existence...

Accept it Chauni and then grant Me My reward of a bastardized Eternity

I know not what I shall become
I know not for the Tome ends here---Without further reference to this creature that is Me
It does speak of much rapture...
It tells of new Beginnings

My ancient eyes now blighted---No more from the Tome can I read
'No longer can these weary emerald green eyes see

"Light the Candle of Creation,
Ring the Bell of Knowledge,
Speak the Utterance of Forever...
To the Heavens, to the Gods, in solemn, pious mediocrity"

you have ended this wondrous Magikal journey
at My side as it was foretold
Hidden hands and strings have all along
controlled our destiny
How sad this final moment...
There are no words that I can hear
How cruel a Fate has brought about the Final of Threes

My One---I feel myself dying!
This is painful, this silent death!
you must now travel on alone in Life
The Seed is now within you---No longer can I be!
No more there is to teach you...
I am slipping into light!
I cannot breathe! I am so warm!

My Witch--- ‘A final look into your eyes before I am lost!
I call your name aloud once more, "Chauni!"

"Zünd an die Flamme der Schoepfung
Lass ertonen die Glocke des Wissens
Sprich aus das Wort Ewigkeit...
fur die Himmel, fur die Gotter, mit feierlicher, frömmer Mittelmassigkeit"

The Seed is gone---my Time, finished
i am no longer what i was
You... You are what You were prophesied to become
You are raw Power unleashed for humanity
You are a bold new Force of Nature!
Beautiful!   Shimmering!   Eternal!   Wise!  Forever young!

i understand in these, my final moments
i smile as i am shown
i cry tears that were known not of  for countless centuries

i was wrong yet i was right!
‘To long i have been shielded from Gods Light
i die yet  i will live again:

For You and i my One; Joined, we are now "The One"

i shall live within You Forever my Love... Forever... my gentle Chauni

Authors Comments

  • Jason is reciting "The Final of Three's" during a moment, the moment, when everything comes to a very unexpected, climactic ending.  As you probably figured out, Jason may be dying, naked, along with Chauni, in her arms due to something that I cannot reveal now (you'll have to buy the book!)

  • Notice that when the Seed is passed to Chauni, Jason now capitalizes everything related to Chauni and lower cases each reference to himself.  Power transfer has thus occurred as Prophecy has become about.
