Memories
Portrayed In Velvet
There are many masterpieces displayed upon the walls of
art museums around the world
All of them the love--labors of the Classic Masters of Old
Lovers of the arts visit these halls loitering for hours on end
as they attempt to interpret each minute stroke of the brush
and the line of the stylus that they had so long ago used
Representations of emotions that take one on a journey
from the feathery soft touches of their hearts weeping
to the impacting stab slashed onto the rough canvas with a wide
swath from their hand
Anger ~ captured and viewed in the bold
I know nothing of paintings or even the ways that a drawing is made
I cannot even begin to comprehend how to create in color with the
feelings that these dead artists discovered and took to new heights in their years
For their work was but only a beginning of a road they were building for future artists in these current years---
The original highway of expression, they began to pave
Many women were poised as their subject models
Concubines of kings, uncommon ladies and even common wives
Each would sit for hours motionless and mute
as the painter with his Magic toiled over the atmosphere he desired
bringing the image within his mind to a near immortal life
Should I perhaps acquire the talent and the skills those men had
If I could paint what I vividly see before my eyes
There is one lady I would select for my own Mona Lisa
A lady who would outshine all of the
collective fortunes of portraits displayed in those temples
The one named in honor of the Goddess of the Moon
Of her image I would make hallowed and divine
Using a fine tipped brush with gold I would awash and recreate her hair
Seductive violet--blue would illuminate the gentleness trapped in her eyes
Oh, I would task myself and brood as I created
Waving my hand over her face set before me I would select a light
tinged red to exhibit the shy blush of
