Dinner Amongst the Heavens

Were I able to offer you a meal
Would you care to dine while seated amongst
An azure sketched evening sky?

We both could gaze across the stars
That served as our candles,
Shimmering upon a cloud tablecloth that lay before us
A feast that could last a lifetime

Savoring each entrée that the angels had brought
Cherub music played to heighten our mood
Elegant toasts with the Crystal Glasses of Love
Would be offered and placed to our lips
In this place we would rendezvous

Paying no heed to having our dinner come to an end
We could dine in extravagance until Time was done
One period of Night, lingering and trapped into Forever
This Interlude of Eternity to be paid with the
Captured, precious platinum and golden rays of
Our kindly host and benefactor---The generous and unseen Sun

Appetizers, drinks, the main course of our meal placed before us
Without ever uttering a fetching request
This spectral and bountiful harvest of nourishment brought forth
In an instant our ravenous hunger is appeased
One mental nod is all it takes to behest

The Twilight Servants and minstrels
perform their services unaware of the nightfall
As you and I make ready to dance upon the waves of the sky
The Music of the Cosmos resounds in our hearts
As the tune of the harp, the flute and the horn
Waft across the lyrics of seraph’s hushed and soothing, mellow lullabies

Will you now accompany me to our table reserved?
May I dine with you in Heaven tonight?
Please take my hand and join me as the Sun disappears
We’ll have Forever to bask in Luna’s light
